Income Tax Returns due date Extended to 31 August 2018

The finance ministry in a tweet has announced the extension of income tax return (ITR) filing deadline by a month to August 31. The tweet says "Upon consideration of the matter, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) extends the ‘Due Date’ for filing of Income Tax Returns from 31st July, 2018 to 31st August, 2018 in respect of the said categories of taxpayers.

Until last assessment year (AY) there was no penalty for filing belated income tax returns. However, this penalty is applicable from AY 2018-19. A new section 234F was inserted by the government in the Income Tax Act. As per this section, an individual would have to pay a fee of up to Rs 10,000 for filing income tax return after the due dates specified in section 139(1) of the Act.

The government has launched two mobile apps, echallan and mParivahan, that provide access to various services and information, and enable citizens to report any traffic violation or road accident.

"Government has launched two new mobile apps - eChallan and mParivahan - related to road safety and customer facilitation," Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan said in a written reply.

eChallan is an integrated enforcement solution to manage traffic violations through an Android-based mobile app and back-end web application, for use by the Transport Enforcement Wing and Traffic Police, the minister informed the Lok Sabha.

This system is already operational in all regional transport offices in Uttar Pradesh, and both transport department and traffic police departments in a number of states are going to adopt the system shortly, the minister said.

mParivahan "is an empowering app for the citizen which provides access to various services, information and utilities related to the transport sector, bring convenience to citizen and transparency in the system and is already available for free download from Google playstore", the minister said.

"The apps also have additional functionalities - like road accident and traffic violation reporting by citizen, concept of virtual and enforceable DL/RC and so on, apart from a host of other technological advanced tools, utilities and services," the minister said further.

The new government, led by Vijay Rupani, will be sworn in on Tuesday, Gujarat BJP spokesperson Harshad Patel said in a statement on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, national BJP chief Amit Shah, chief ministers of 18 BJP-ruled states and central ministers, have been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony, he added.
A delegation including state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani and senior BJP leader Bhupendrasinh Chudasama met governor Om Prakash Kohli on Saturday evening with a letter staking the party’s claim for forming the government.
The BJP won 99 seats in the 182-member state assembly to clinch power in Gujarat for a sixth straight term. The Congress won 77 seats, putting up a creditable performance. It was the Congress party’s highest tally in the state since 1985.
Finally Vijay Rupani’s team has been announced. Today 21 people, including Rupani and Patel will take oath.
